The Most Common Spinal Disc Problems

March 2, 2020 By Jaffer Barlas, Seattle Chiropractor

Bottom Line: Have you ever experienced back pain? Did you know that it's one of the most common health complaints in the US? Each day about 31 million Americans report having back pain!  Much of this is due to spinal disc issues. Why it Matters: Your spinal disc is a complex piece of cartilage that sits between the vertebrae (bones) that make up your spine. Your discs have two parts. The tough outer portion, called the annulus fibrosus, is made up of collagen fibers. The inside of the … [Read more...] about The Most Common Spinal Disc Problems

Moving Your Body Towards Improved Health

February 6, 2020 By Jaffer Barlas, Seattle Chiropractor

Bottom Line:  Being healthy doesn't mean that you need to spend 20 hours each week in the gym. Even little things like standing at work can make a big improvement in your overall health. On the other hand, a sedentary lifestyle is a significant factor in many chronic diseases, as well as spinal aches and pains.   Why it Matters: Do you drive to work and then spend your day on the computer? You may not realize that you have been spending 8, 10, or even more long hours each day … [Read more...] about Moving Your Body Towards Improved Health

While this seems like a normal process, new research has begun to show that spinal injections aren't very effective at treating back pain, and the risks may far outweigh the rewards. Keep reading to discover a better path … [Read more...] about The Risky Business of Spinal Injections

Newsletter, October 2019

October 25, 2019 By Jaffer Barlas, Seattle Chiropractor

Roads are slick, so please drive carefully! Heavy autumn rains cause oils to rise to the surface of roads, meaning reducing traction.  This is likely one reason that we (unfortunately) treat more people who have been in motor vehicle accidents during the fall than during any other time of year.  Remember to remain aware and alert while driving, maintain a good stopping distance, and break early and slowly rather than suddenly.  However, if you are in an accident, contact us and schedule an exam … [Read more...] about Newsletter, October 2019

The 3 Best Stretches for Back Pain

September 30, 2019 By Jaffer Barlas, Seattle Chiropractor

Back pain can be the result of many factors, but tight muscles and joints around the low back and hips are among the most common.  I want to give you what I consider to be the three best stretches that will help you relieve pain and reduce tightness around these areas.   The Hip Hinge The Hip Hinge stretch is great because you can do it almost anywhere. Start by standing up straight, making sure your pelvis is not tilted forward or backward (in other words make sure you have a neutral … [Read more...] about The 3 Best Stretches for Back Pain
