Back Pain

The Risky Business of Spinal Injections

December 7, 2019 By Jaffer Barlas, Seattle Chiropractor

Bottom Line:   If you've suffered from pain in your arm or leg, it could be caused by a spinal disc pressing on one of your nerves. If a medical doctor recognizes a pinched nerve on your MRI, they might refer you for a spinal injection (with a corticosteriod). While this seems like a normal process, new research has begun to show that spinal injections aren't very effective at treating back pain, and the risks may far outweigh the rewards. Keep reading to discover a better path … [Read more...] about The Risky Business of Spinal Injections

Newsletter, October 2019

October 25, 2019 By Jaffer Barlas, Seattle Chiropractor

Roads are slick, so please drive carefully! Heavy autumn rains cause oils to rise to the surface of roads, meaning reducing traction.  This is likely one reason that we (unfortunately) treat more people who have been in motor vehicle accidents during the fall than during any other time of year.  Remember to remain aware and alert while driving, maintain a good stopping distance, and break early and slowly rather than suddenly.  However, if you are in an accident, contact us and schedule an exam … [Read more...] about Newsletter, October 2019

What to do if you are in an auto accident

October 14, 2019 By Jaffer Barlas, Seattle Chiropractor

Why you should seek care following a motor vehicle accident Say you’re stopped at a traffic light and the driver behind you doesn’t slow down in time.  They end up running into you at a low speed, say 10mph.  You’re startled and annoyed, but when you exit your car and look at your bumper you see just a small scratch and you’re relieved.  You exchange information with the other driver and carry on with your day.  However, later that day you strangely start to feel tightness and pain in your neck … [Read more...] about What to do if you are in an auto accident

The 3 Best Stretches for Back Pain

September 30, 2019 By Jaffer Barlas, Seattle Chiropractor

Back pain can be the result of many factors, but tight muscles and joints around the low back and hips are among the most common.  I want to give you what I consider to be the three best stretches that will help you relieve pain and reduce tightness around these areas.   The Hip Hinge The Hip Hinge stretch is great because you can do it almost anywhere. Start by standing up straight, making sure your pelvis is not tilted forward or backward (in other words make sure you have a neutral … [Read more...] about The 3 Best Stretches for Back Pain

What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

January 8, 2019 By Jaffer Barlas, Seattle Chiropractor

Eliminating Myths about this Widely Used Treatment Too much mystery and misunderstanding surrounds the nature of chiropractic adjustments.  Both chiropractors and the rest of those in American medicine alike have stated claims about what a chiropractic adjustment is and what it does, some of which are correct and some of which are misleading.  To be clear, in this blog I want to answer the question “what is a chiropractic adjustment” rather than “what is chiropractic”.   All I will say here … [Read more...] about What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
