Pain on the bottom of your foot when you walk or run, or when you first get out of bed in the morning, might mean that you have developed what is known as plantar fasciitis. The bottom of the foot, known as the “plantar” surface of the foot, contains not only muscles, but a material called “fascia”, mostly made of collagen, which helps form the arches of the foot.
The primary foot arch, called the medial plantar arch, commonly gets irritated in both those who are active and non-active alike. This condition has been known to be extremely aggravating to those who have it, so it is important to monitor your symptoms and get treatment right away if they are worsening.
Dr. Jaffer Barlas at Barlas chiropractic near South Lake Union can treat your plantar fasciitis and give sound recommendations so that you can prevent it from returning again. Fibrosis often takes place in the fascia in this area causing pain and restriction.
Plantar fasciitis is an injury of microtrauma, meaning repetitive wear-and-tear to a tissue of the body.
In this case that tissue is the fascia of the bottom of the foot. This fascia helps form the arch of your foot so that you can walk and move properly. When this fascia is repeatedly irritated, your body lays down more collagen to try to restrict movement and pain and soreness ensue. It is also accompanied by tight intrinsic foot musculature and very tight musculature of the lower legs.
Low or high arches and poor footwear can predispose a person to this injury. It is vital to address footwear when treating this problem. A combination of Active Release Techniques® (ART®) and instrument assisted soft tissue therapies combined with adjustments to the surrounding joints and strengthening exercises for the foot and surrounding musculature can relieve symptoms of this problem.
Before your foot pain gets worse and becomes a more-serious problem schedule an appointment with Dr. Jaffer Barlas at Barlas Chiropractic on Westlake Avenue in Seattle. You can get this under control the sooner you take action!
